Here you will find information on the types of licence rights available for Getty Images products and the licence agreements pertaining to those products and rights.
Rights-managed products are licensed with restrictions on usage, such as limitations on size, placement, duration of use and geographic distribution. You will be asked to submit information concerning your intended use of the product, which will determine the scope of usage rights granted. Our price calculator or one of our sales representatives can help you determine the price. Exclusive rights are available for purchase for some rights-managed products. All licences of rights-managed products are subject to Getty Images Editorial, Rights-Managed and Rights-Ready Image and Video Licence Agreement
Royalty-free products may be used by you multiple times for multiple projects without incurring additional fees. Royalty-free pricing is based solely on the file size of the product you need and the number of people entitled to use it (maximum 10), not the specific use. You don't have to pay any additional royalties for successive uses of a royalty-free product. However, as with all Getty Images licences, the rights granted are non-transferable and are personal to you. This means that if you license a royalty-free product to be used in a derivative work by your client or any other person, they may not use the licensed product separately from the derivative work. Royalty-free licences are always non-exclusive. All licences of royalty-free products are subject to Getty Images' Royalty-Free Licence Agreement
Products in our editorial collections are licensed with restrictions on usage, such as limitations on size, placement, duration of use and geographic distribution. Editorial products must be used in an "editorial" manner, which means use relating to events that are newsworthy or of public interest. If you wish to use an image or video from our editorial collections for a non-editorial use, you must contact a sales representative to assist you. All licences of editorial products are subject to Getty Images Editorial, Rights-Managed and Rights-Ready Image and Video Licence Agreement
"Comping" & preview use
Getty Images permits certain electronic files of its products to be used free of charge (or in some cases for a minimal fee) for a limited duration, if they are used only for personal, noncommercial use and solely for test or sample purposes. These rights are governed by the Comping File and Video Preview Licence Agreement
. Comping files may be used to take a closer look at a particular image or to create materials for proofing presentations to clients. Comping files are not licensed for use in final projects, whether for internal or external use.
Music is licensed with restrictions on usage, such as the user, use, format and media. You will be asked to submit information that will determine the scope of usage rights granted. Our price calculator or one of our sales representatives can help you determine the price. Licences of single-track music products are subject to our Getty Images Music Licence Agreement
. In many cases, works that are publicly performed will be subject to payment of performance royalties. See "Music Licensing 101" for more details.
Music can also be licensed with performance and mechanical royalties bundled into the initial licence fee (the US music industry term is a Direct License) via our Sound Express music collection. In that case, all royalties are covered within the overall music licence fee you pay, and no subsequent fees are owed. See our Getty Images Music Licence Agreement for full terms and restrictions.
