Rabobank, which has sponsored a professional cycling team for the last 17 years, announced last October that it would sever its ties with the team from December 31, claiming the sport had been irrevocably damaged by a succession of doping cases, notably the devastating Lance Armstrong affair. From January 1, 2013, the team rideS under the banner of Blanco Pro Cycling. Armstrong had already been stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and his 2000 Olympic bronze medal before making his personal confession to American talk show host Oprah Winfrey last week.
