ITALY-PALESTINIANS-ACHILLE LAURO HIJACKING
Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro is docked 10 October 1985 in Port Said harbor after Egyptian authorities stopped it from sailing to the Israeli port of Ashdod. Achille Lauro was seized by a commando of the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF) of Abu Abbas who organized the hijacking off the Egyptian coast on October 07, 1985 taking its 450 passengers hostages. A handicapped Jewish-American passenger, Leon Klinghoffer, was killed by commando chief Majid al-Molki and thrown overboard. The Achille Lauro sank in the Indian Ocean after a three-day fire in December 1994.
