Hokuriku Shinkansen Bullet Train Service Launches

TOKYO, JAPAN - MARCH 14: New Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train runs on March 14, 2015 in Tokyo, Japan. A string of ceremonies are held marking the opening of a much-anticipated bullet train service linking Nagano to the distant Hokuriku region. The 228-kilometer section of the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line reduces travel time between Tokyo and Kanazawa, a key city in Hokuriku, to just two hours and 28 minutes, about one hour and 19 minutes shorter than using local trains. The Hokuriku Shinkansen Line will be extended further from Kanazawa to Osaka in the future. (Photo by The Asahi Shimbun via Getty Images)
