A picture shows the facade of Sarajevo City Hall and National Library building lit with 3D mapping animations during a grand re-opening ceremony, on May 9, 2014. Sarajevo City Hall was built in 1896 while Bosnia was under Austro-Hungarian rule (1878-1914) and was re-purposed into National Library after World War II. It used to contain more than 2 millions of books and artifacts before it was destroyed in a fire caused by mortar and artillery shells fired from Bosnian Serb postions overlooking the city, in the night between August 25-26, 1992. Only some 300.000 pieces of the material were saved from the flames. The building was under reconstruction, mostly founded by the EU, since 1996.
