SAFRICA-AUCTION-PHILATELY

A picture taken on August 28, 2014 shows a unique triangle shaped South African stamp that was put on auction on August 28, 2014 at the Sandton Towers in Johannesburg, South Africa. A horde of rare triangular stamps which were among the first ever printed in South Africa fetch between 400000 and 600000 South African Rand at an auction on August 27. The stamps, made by London printers Perkins, Bacon & Co. in 1853, were produced in their unusual shape so illiterate workers could distinguish domestic from international mail.
