IRISH Abortion/ Poster 2

A poster in Ballsbridge, South Dublin, calling for a yes vote ahead of the forthcoming referendum on March 6, 2002, to decide whether a woman who threatens to commit suicide rather than continue with her pregnancy should be permitted to have one. *A 'Yes' vote calls for the constitution to be change to stop her. A 'No' vote would see the constitution remain as it is, upholding the original Supreme Court ruling to allow abortions in such exceptional circumstances would stand. This ruling goes back to the X case in 1992 where a 14-year-old girl was made pregnant as a result of rape. An abortion was ruled permissable in Ireland as the youngster was suicidal. March 5, 2002.
