Easter Island Moai in Dublin

A replica statue of an "Easter Island Moai" stands beneath the Chilean flag, after the Government of Chile presented the sculpture to the City of Dublin Council at a ceremony attended by Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Michael Conaghan and H.E. Cristian Barros, Deputy Foreign Minister of Chile, at Clontarf Promenade, Dublin, Ireland. The "Maoi" sculpted by artist Alejandro Pakarati, a native of "Rapui Nui" (Easter Island) is carved from volcanic stone and stands 3 metres in height. The sculpture is a replica of one of an Easter Island Head or "Maoi" which on average stand four metres high and depict human heads-on-torsos and are carved from rough hardened volcanic ash. There are approximately 1,000 of these sculptures on Easter Island which is located in the South Pacific Ocean at 3,760 Kms off the Chilean coast and has been a part of Chile since 1888.
