A sack containing 33 kg of sugar was placed by Activists of Alliance for Health Food in front of the building of the Federal Commission for Protection Against Health Risks (COFEPRIS) during a protest against the front of food and beverage labeling in Mexico City, on April 9, 2014. According to the activists COFEPRIS has recommended a daily intake of 90 grams of sugar which would mean approximately 33 kg per year. A nutritionist at the Food Guidance Center, said the data for diabetes in Mexico are alarming, only in the past six years killed about 500,000 people and about 4.5 million patients are not served.
