Impoverished Thais Recieve Government Cash Handout

BANGKOK, THAILAND - MARCH 26: Thais wait for hours to receive a government check of 2000-baht ($57.00 US) at the city hall March 26, 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand. The pay out is being given to stimulate an economy battered by the global financial crisis. Eight million Thais have been unemployed since September 1, 2008, and in total there are 9.4 million people who make less than 15000 baht per month and are eligible for the cash hand-out. Today 20,000 red-shirted protesters surrounded the prime minister's office demanding the government resign. The pro-Thaksin supporters claim that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva government came to power through illegal means and are demanding elections. (Photo by Paula Bronstein/Getty Images)
