The replica of the French frigate Hermione, onto which La Fayette embarked in 1780 to bring help and support to the American insurgents, leaves the French western port of La Rochelle to resume engine testing on September 29, 2014, after being docked since September 11 due to a damaged engine. The frigate, whose construction began in 1997 in Rochefort, sailed for the first time on September 7, and has to complete two months of trials between Bordeaux and Brest before a winter break. Hermione is then scheduled to cross the Atlantic in the summer of 2015, in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessor, onto which the Marquis de Lafayette and the French expeditionary force left to help American insurgents in 1780.
