Mngeni has been sentenced to life imprisonment on the charges of murder, robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in the Cape High Court after being cleared as fit to stand trial despite his brain tumour. Dewani's husband, Shrien is fighting against being extradited from the UK to South Africa, allegedly for masterminding his wife's murder on November 13, 2011 in a poor township on the outskirts of Cape Town.
