The Tortoise Taking A Walk Around Downtown Tokyo

TOKYO, JAPAN - JUN. 24: One meter-long tortoise has become the quite hot topic recently around Tsukishima, downtown of Tokyo, popularly known as “Monja Town” in Chuo ward for often seen strolling with his owner. His name is Bon-chan. About twenty years ago he left his former pet shop home to live with local resident Hisao Mitani. Then small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, he quickly grew to his current weight of 70 kilograms, about 150 pounds. Every evening he comes out for a one-hour and half, 200-meter walk. He is very friendly and often lets other local residents pet him or children ride on his back. But he can also be very stubborn. When it is time to return home, he often refuses, putting his owner in difficult spot.
