(Original Caption) Actress Audrey Hepburn was appointed March 9, 1988 as a Special UNICEF Ambassador by James P. Grant, Executive Director of the United Nations Children Fund. The first mission the British actress undertook was to Ethiopia, on behalf of the US National Committee for UNICEF, accompanied by its president, Lawrence E. Bruce Jr. In Mehal Meda, North Shoa, they visited a cash-for-food project which includes a sheep-breeding component to provide wool for weaving and blanket-making. This project is successfully helping people not only to begin again but to be able to weather the present drought with minimal support.
