Aldeia Maracanã - Building Entrance

[UNVERIFIED CONTENT] A Aldeia Maracanã (Maracana Village) é a ocupação de um prédio histórico, onde surgiu a primeira instituição brasileira de conservação da cultura indígena. No dia 12 de janeiro de 2013, tropas da polícia militar do Rio de Janeiro, cercaram o prédio e tentaram expulsar os índios, para que as obras da Copa do Mundo pudessem continuar. Parte da população em solidariedade aos indígenas, ajudou a ocupar o prédio, enfrentando e vencendo as forças do governo, que cancelaram a demolição. Aldeia Maracanã (Maracana Village) is the occupation of a historic building, where was created the first Brazilian institution for the preservation of the indigenous culture. On January 12th, 2013, the Rio de Janeiro military police troops, surrounded the building and attempted to evict the Indians, for the World Cup works could continue. Part of the population, in solidarity with the indigenous cause, occupied the building, facing and defeating government forces, who canceled the demolition.
