MADRAS, INDIA: An elderly Indian lady feeds her disabled husband in a relief camp for victims of tidal waves in the Santhome Church in Madras, 27 December 2004. The death toll from tidal waves that battered much of Asia has risen to at least 5,279 in southern India, officials said. The dead included 2,780 dead in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu and some 2,000 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, close to the epicentre of the Indonesian earthquake that caused the tsunamis, according to police and officials quoted by the Press Trust of India.
