Buddha Purnima (Buddha Day) is observed traditionally by Buddhists in different places all over the world. Sometimes informally called "Buddha's Birthday", it actually commemorates the birth, enlightenment (nirvna), and death (Parinirvna) of Gautama Buddha in the Theravada or southern tradition.
