(Original Caption) 2/3/1958-Cairo, Egypt- Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, left, and Syrian President Shukri Al-Kuwatly clasp hands to symbolize merger of the two countries into the United Arab Republic on Kuwatly's arrival in Cairo with members of his cabinet. In their proclamation, the two leaders left "the door open for participation by any other Arab state desirous of joining in the union" or federation. An Egyptian spokesman said today that the kingdom of Yemen, an absolute monarchy, is expected to "adhere" immediately to the new Egypt-Syrian Republic.
