Nipah Virus: Health Department Warns Against Consuming Raw Date Juice In Bangladesh

29 December 2023 Sylhet-Bangladesh: A man carefully collects date palm juice from a plastic container. According to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), people are dying of Nipah virus after consuming raw date juice. When bats hang on palm trees to collect sap, the virus is transmitted by bat saliva or faeces. Due to the risk of death from Nipah virus, the Department of Health issued a warning to refrain from consuming raw date juice to prevent the spread of Nipah virus.
