Turkey Reflects On Its Future Ahead Of Election
ISTANBUL, TURKEY - FEBRUARY 19: (EDITORS NOTE: Multiple exposures were combined in camera to produce this image, the image has been shot in black and white. Color version not available.) A ferry passes in front of Galata tower (bottom) overlayed by a ferry passing the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia on February 19, 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey. With Turkey being just days away from the most important elections in its modern history Presidential candidates from all parties are holding campaign rallies across Turkey ahead of the June 24, parliamentary and presidential elections. Opposition parties have called the election a choice between democracy and one-man rule and see the election as a point of no return. If Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan is re-elected, the parliamentary system would be replaced by an executive presidency, decided in last years referendum, it would also allow Erdogan to stay in power until 2023. The political uncertainty and the countries slow recovery after two years of instability due to terrorist attacks, diplomatic rows, declining tourism and now an economic crisis, leave many voters looking toward an uncertain future.
