SUNDARBANS, WEST BENGAL, INDIA - 2017/10/28: A fishermen are fishing next to the dense mangrove forest in the Sundarbans. It's a dangerous job because the tiger often attacks when the fisherman gets too close to the shoreline by jumping into the boat. With the ocean swallowing up land in the worlds largest mangrove forest, humans and tigers are being squeezed into an ever-shrinking space in the Indian Sundarbans, with deadly consequences. The sea level has risen by an average of 3 centimeters a year over the past two decades in the Sundarbans, leading to one of the fastest rates of coastal erosion in the world. Residents of the dozens of islands in the Indian part of the Sundarbans have seen their homes swallowed up by the sea and their farmland poisoned by saltwater, forcing many to relocate. The sea has encroached into the tigers hunting grounds, pushing them to target humans and livestock alike. At the same time, villagers are venturing deeper into tiger territory, putting them at even greater risk of tiger attacks. (Photo by Jonas Gratzer/LightRocket via Getty Images)
