Henry Jarvis Raymond (1820-1869). American journalist and politician. Worked at Horace Greeley's 'New Yorker' 1840, at 'New York Tribune' 1841-48, at 'Harper's Magazine' 1850. Founded with George Jones, 'The New York Times' 1851, editor 1851-69, lieutenant governor of NY 1855-57, a founder of the Republican party 1856, member, US House of Representatives 1865-67.
