MIDEAST-PALESTINIAN-EASTER-HOLY-FIRE-ARAFAT
In this hand out made available by the Palestinian Press Office (PPO) Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (C) holds the 'Holy Fire' brought by Greek Orthodox bishop Milithenyom Basal (L) and Muslim Mufty Taysir al-Tamimi (R) from Jerusalem, during a reception to mark Easter 10 April 2004, in his offices in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The ceremony of the 'Holy Flame' celebrated in the same way for 11 centuries, is marked by the appearance of 'sacred fire' in the two cavities on either side of the Holy Sepulchre, in the Church of the Sepulchre in Jerusalem, and Christians all over the world light candles today representing this 'Holy Fire'. The Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is the site of the tomb of Jesus Christ according to Christian tradition.
