BAIHATA, INDIA: Indian vllagers carry their possessions as they walk through floodwaters in the village of Baihata, Kamrup District, some 45kms north of Guwahati, 12 July 2004. Ninety-nine people have now died in India's monsoon-linked floods with up to three million people displaced, according to government sources. Road links between the northeast and the rest of India remained severed as the railways rescheduled or changed routes of trains as water in several areas submerged tracks.Indian soldiers using boats and helicopters have rescued thousands of marooned people across Assam. Hundreds of thousands of people were sheltered in makeshift relief camps and on raised bamboo stilts with authorities fearing an outbreak of water-borne diseases.
