Tension Heightens Between Indian And Pakistan On Kashmir Border

The village with a population of a little over 12,000 has been bearing the brunt of cross-fire between nuclear rivals India and Pakistan. People living along the ceasefire line dividing Kashmir into India and Pakistan-administered portions have continually been at risk due to hostility between the armies of the two nuclear rivals. Tension between Pakistan and India has escalated after a fresh skirmish along the border. The Indian army in northern Uri district say it has increased its vigil along the Line of Control (LOC). On 20 February Pakistan Army killed an Indian Border Security Force Trooper near the de-facto border in north Kashmirs Kupwara district. Last week a Pakistan civilian was killed across LOC, a military line that divides Indian-administered Kashmir from the Pakistan-administered Kashmir, after a shell fired from India landed on one of their houses in Tatrinote area located on the LoC in Madarpur sector of Pakistan administered Kashmir. India on Sunday alleged a ceasefire violation by Pakistan along what New Delhi prefers to call the International Border and Working Boundary by Islamabad. Both Pakistan and India have traded blame over unprovoked shelling which India says is aimed to facilitate the crossover of rebels to their side, a charge Pakistan denies.
