Vokatta International Kite Festival

KOLKATA, INDIA - JANUARY 5: Kolkata hosts Vokatta International Kite Festival in NewTown on January 5, 2014 in Kolkata, India. Vokatta is the biggest organised kite festival in eastern India. It is the platform to showcase the rich heritage of Indian kite making and also the traditional technique of kite flying which evolved through the ages to modern day India. Hundreds of giant fancy kites of myriad shapes and sizes, crafted by Indian and international kite-flyers dot the city skyline on January 5 at the Vokatta International Kite Festival 2014. The programme highlights include, releasing 200 white pigeons and more than 2700 gas balloons and kites in the air to mark celebrations, an international kite flying competition, musical performances and releasing paper lanterns in the evening.
