Henderson to succeed the late Sir Richard Mayne as Chief Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police was announced several weeks ago, and he has since entered upon the duties of his office. Colonel Henderson was, during a period of thirteen years (from 1847 to 1860) at the head of the convict establishment in Western Australia. He returned to England in 1860, and soon afterwards, on the death of Sir Joshua Jebb, was appointed to the chairmanship of the board of directors of convict prisons.
