Baseball Tension on The Field Between Al Lopez and Bill Grieve
(Original Caption) Manager Al Lopez of the Indians stamped his foot as he argued heatedly with umpire Bill Grieve, (who had something to say too), on a decision in the third inning of the Indians-Yanks game at the Yankee Stadium on June 23, 1951. Both Bob Lemon and Bob Avila came home on a wild pitch, and the umpire ruled Avila had to go back to third. The Yanks won, 7-6, on a pinch single by Joe Collins in the ninth with two out and the bases loaded.
