Baghdad, IRAQ: Members of the Iraqi "Friends of Democracy" organisation hold a press conference in Baghdad 16 September 2006 under the title of the "Iraq Oath" aimed to preserve the rights and freedoms to all Iraqis. Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki urged hundreds of Iraqi scholars and civil rights activists today to help rein in sectarian bloodletting that was destroying the war-torn country. "We should keep aside our differences to build bridges and Iraq's civil society should work to implement a policy of concord," Maliki said in his address to more than 1,000 people in Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone.
