The R7V-2 Airplane
(Original Caption) A milestone in aviation was set at Lockheed air terminal, Burbank, recently when the first flight of the first Super Constellation equipped with jet type turbo-prop engines took place. Built for the U.S. Navy and designated the R7V-2 (in photo), the plane has a top cruising speed of 440 m.p.h. carrying a 32,000 pound payload and is capable of cruising across the Atlantic in less than 9 hours. The four Pratt & Whitney engines have a total horsepower of more than 22,000.
