My Lai Massacre - War with Vietnam

SON TINH, QUANG NGAI, VIETNAM - 2007/09/23: Mrs Pham Thi Thuan, 69, left, and Mrs Ha Thi Quy, 82, survivors of the My Lai massacre, visit the Thuan Yen ditch where they nearly died. Her mother, a daughter and a son were killed in the massacre of 504 defenseless Vietnamese civilians, mostly women and children, conducted by U.S. Army forces on March 16, 1968, in the hamlet of My Lai during the Vietnam War. Before being killed some of the victims were raped, gang-raped, sodomized, beaten, clubbed, tortured, maimed, or stabbed. Some of the dead bodies were also mutilated. The incident prompted widespread outrage around the world and reduced American support at home for the war in Vietnam. The massacre is also known as the Son My Massacre..
