Women Looking at Bargains at Gimbels

(Original Caption) 5/29/1951-New York, New York New York department store are at the start of a real "honest to goodness" price cutting war due to Macy's announcement of a 6 percent price slash on over 5,000 items previously price-fixed under the state's "fair trade" law. Gimbels was fast in meeting their rival's reduction in prices. Above, after the store met Macy's first cut in prices May 29th, customers in Gimbels flock to the counters to get at the bargains.
