People celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Indian Independence in Mumbai in August 1997. India gained Independence from Britain on 15th August 1947 shortly after the 2nd World War and influenced by an increasing sentiment in the country for it to direct its own future. Modern India is a Global trading country with close commercial links to the rest of the world.
