They could leave the front lines around Ypres and stay at Talbot and mix with all ranks for some peace and quiet. It is now run as a museum and B and B. Walking the Western Front. Close to half a million Canadians served overseas in the First World War mostly in the battle lines of the Western Front through Belgium and northern France.
