Nikola Tesla
Portrait of Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), aged 34, circa 1890. A Serbian-American physicist and electrical engineer, he was born in Croatia to Serbian parents. Tesla was the inventor of polyphase electrical power systems and the ac induction motor. He developed the Tesla coil and had the SI unit (the international system of standard scientific units) of magnetic flux density, the Tesla, named after him. From a photograph by Napoleon Sarony.
