80th Anniversary Of Wannsee Conference Nears
BERLIN, GERMANY - JANUARY 19: Roses lie at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, also known as the Holocaust Memorial, on January 19, 2022 in Berlin, Germany. On January 20, 1942, nearly 80 years ago, Nazi Germany government officials met at the so-called Wannsee Conference, in which they discussed the means for the mass extermination of Europe's Jews, also known as the "final solution." While mass murder of Jews by the Nazis was already well underway, the Wannsee Conference led to the large-scale roundup of Jews across Europe with the purpose of sending them to death camps built by the Nazis in Poland, including Auschwitz-Birkenau, Sobibor, Belcez, Majdanek and Treblinka. Up to 7.4 million Jews died in the Holocaust. (Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)
