Portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt

(Original Caption) Seated in front of the fireside in the Oval Room of the White House, December 9th, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in his first address to the nation since the Japanese attack and our subsequent declaration of war, told the nation that it faces a long, hard war against "crafty and powerful bandits." His voice stern and determined, the President assured the nation that it would know the facts, good or bad, just as soon as they were confirmed and just as soon as such information would be of no use to the enemy.
