DARPA
FONTANA, CA - MARCH 9: Team Cimar from University of Florida after failing to complete the qualification course is driven back to the garage for more work. 25 teams are trying to qualify at the California Speedway for the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency ( DARPA ). They have put up a 1 million dollar prize for a team to build the winning robotic car ( a bot ) that will drive itself from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, across the desert on September 13, 2004. Instead of developing the project to conceive unmanned combat vehicles themselves, DARPA is challenging the private sector.
