The Abandoned Nicosia International Airport
NICOSIA ,CYPRUS - JULY 19: The abandoned main temrinal of Nicosia International Airport inside the buffer zone on July 19, 2023 in Nicosia. Nicosia International Airport was the main airport for the island until it closed after the Turkish invasion in 1974. During the Turkish invasion, the airport was the scene of some of the heaviest fighting between Cypriot and Turkish forces, which led the United Nations Security Council to declare it a United Nations Protected Area (UNPA) during the conflict and was the site where the ceasefire was signed on 16 August 1974.
