Morococha, PERU: TO GO WITH AFP STORY View 01 June, 2007 of a restricted area of Morococha, Peru. The Morococha mining town, 141 km east of Lima, 4,600m above sea level and with no more than 10 thousand families, was settled under a rich copper mine owned by Canadian company Minera Peru Copper. As results of the mining activities, part of the town has been buried by the the debris and now it will have to be relocated. Its residents are demanding a compensation of 900 US dollars per square meter of their homes, that their young be prepared for the new mining technologies and that the local cemetery be moved to the new settlement.
