Voisin Avaaz (avaaz.org) a global campaign network released about 20 chinese flying lanterns into the air just south of the white house. They had planned to release 100 but were stopped by the secret service police. The lanterns are a symbol of hope traditionally released to celebrate the new year. They were released as President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao men in Beijing. The group is trying to point out the efforts china has made to fight climate change and demanding more from the United States. PICTURED: Suzanne Freynik, cq, 26 of DC prepares to release a lantern.
