Gold Vein - stock photo
A sawn rock specimen from an old gold mine near Wau, Morobe province in Papua New Guinea. In this geological rock specimen a vein of quartz and pink manganese rich carbonate is cutting a tuff ring breccia host rock. Epithermal gold is contained within the quartz-manganocarbonate vein. Mining for gold was undertaken where a stockwork of such veins were sufficiently concentrated in the volcanic tuff ring host rock. The mineralised tuff ring was formed by the eruption of a diatreme. Pink rocks are unusual in nature.
