The park is noted for the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in U.S. having over 4,300 in more than 14 different varieties collectively called Cherryblossomland, as well as its spectacular Cherry Blossom Festival each April.Park was formally created in 1895, making it the nation's first county park. In 1900, firm of Frederick Law Olmsted was commissioned to redesign the park with naturalistic look and feel and acres of meadows and forests.
