The Purfleet by the River Great Ouse in King's Lynn - stock photo
A few people on the quayside of the Purfleet, an historic dock leading from the River Great Ouse in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, Eastern England, which is the site of the famous old Custom House. The Custom House is probably the best-known building in this ancient town and port on the west coast of Norfolk. It was built as a merchant exchange in 1683 on reclaimed land at Purfleet Quay in the Dutch style so often seen in Norfolk. The building was bought by the Crown in 1717 for the use of Customs officers and was in use in that capacity until 1989. The Union Flag is flying at half-mast in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II who had died a few days earlier.
