EXT DAY SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA Low shot: Dog on leash walks outside evacuation shelter at Qualcomm Stadium, sniffing at passers-by. MS: Woman holds dogs on leashes. MS: Dog pokes nose through bars on barricade. INT SAN DIEGO In interview woman lying on cot with two dogs says"I cannot leave, you know, let the two dogs stay outside." EXT DAY LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA MS: Horse owner Victor Brandt (ph) and woman walk along row of pens at animal emergency shelter and calls out"Hello, boys." MS: Brandt and blindfolded horse at shelter. In interview as woman looks on, Brandt says"We said, `Let's get them out' because that's the biggest headache. If there's smoke, they begin to smell it. They'll get panicky." MS: NBC's Lester Holt pets horses in corral at shelter as he reports on-camera. MS: Horse extends its next through bars of fence and nuzzles veterinarian Marta Grandstead (ph). INT LOS ANGELES MS: In interview in barn, Holt asks Grandstead"In some cases we saw animals simply let out. Will an animal find shelter on its own?" She replies"No. Very unlikely.
