‘farewell, Maricarmen’ March From Puerta Del Sol To Maricarmen’s Home

MADRID, SPAIN - OCTOBER 08: Dozens of people took part in the ‘Hasta Siempre, Maricarmen’ march, from Puerta del Sol to Maricarmen’s home, on 8 October 2026, in Madrid, Spain. Many people have left candles, flowers and messages of support outside the doorway from which Maricarmen was evicted two weeks ago, hours after news broke of the 87-year-old woman’s death. “To trade in houses is to trade in lives. Let housing cost no more lives. Thank you, Maricarmen,” reads one of the messages of thanks. (Photo By Matias Chiofalo/Europa Press via Getty Images)
