Bill Clinton Joins LA Mayor In Announcing Largest LED Street Light Program
LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 16: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (L) applauds as former President Bill Clinton speaks at the unveiling of what is billed as the largest light-emitting diode street light program ever undertaken by a city, at City Hall February 16, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The city plans to retrofit 140,000 of its residential street lights with energy-efficient LED lights over the next five years. The program is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40,500 tons and save the city $10 million a year. The Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI), founded by the former president in August 2006 to fight global warming, is an implementing partner of the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group, a worldwide association of large cities, including Los Angeles, that have pledged to accelerate their effort to reduce greenhouse emissions.
