Annual festival of folk culture, Maslenitsa celebrated in Russia's Krasnoyarsk
KRASNOYARSK, RUSSIA - FEBRUARY 26: People celebrate annual festival of folk culture, Maslenitsa, in Cossack village of Krasnoyarsk, Russia on February 26, 2023. Maslenitsa is an East Slavic traditional celebration observed the week before Lent. It has pre-Christian Slavic mythological elements preserved in its ritual foundation. The celebration delineates the start of Meat-Eater and Great Lent as well as the transition between winter and spring in the Eastern Slavic folk calendar. For Catholics, Maslenitsa is comparable to "Fat Tuesday" and the Meat Feast. Every year, depending on when Easter is celebrated, the date of Maslenitsa changes.
