Indonesian Education System Challenged By Coronavirus Lockdowns
BOYOLALI, INDONESIA - OCTOBER 01: Students play while waiting for their teacher, Parmin (58), to make home visit who have poor cellular service and cannot learn online at the remote area in Senden village at slope of mount Merapi and Merbabu amid the Coronavirus pandemic on October 1, 2020 in Selo, Boyolali, Central Java, Indonesia. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture data nearly 70 million children have been affected by school shutdowns which started in mid-March. Since it closed on March 16, the school has implemented various methods and approaches to support distance learning. Even so, its implementation in the field still faces various obstacles. The problem is limited support facilities, such as laptops, smart phones and internet data packages. In addition, parents also claim to not have enough time and feel they lack the knowledge to accompany children to learn online. Indonesia is struggling to contain thousands of new daily cases of coronavirus amid easing of rules to allow economic activity to resume. (Photo by Ulet Ifansasti/Getty Images)
