UNITED KINGDOM - FEBRUARY 05: This laboratory robot was programmed to put two precisely measured amounts of liquid into the wells on two different plates, which is part of the process used to work out gene sequences. The 96 starting samples would each contain different fragments of DNA cloned in bacteria. The Biomek 1000 was used extensively in early robotic liquid handling applications for the Human Genome Project. Manufactured by Beckman Instruments (UK) Ltd, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
